Pontefract Dogs Home was formed in 2003. It's main aim was to offer shelter and food for unwanted puppies needing care in a safe environment, offering veterinary attention, vaccinations and a lot of love, followed by finding them permanent responsible homes.
In 2005 Paul O'Grady invited Helen, the manager to London with puppies to appear live on his show to promote the rescue and help find them homes.
Due to his kind gesture and help with the rescue we have built more kennels and this has enabled the rescue to take in and re-home adult dogs.
All the dogs live at the country kennels in a family environment until we can find them permanent homes.
We cater for all sizes of dogs and all ages.
Helen has worked in rescue charity kennels for the last twenty-five years gaining valuable experience and is a professional dog groomer and registered microchip implanted, all this experience has been a great benefit to the rescue.
Also without the help of Morrisons supermarkets and their generous customers, the rescue could not survive. Over the last two years we have had donations of dog food for all our homeless dogs and cannot thank everyone enough for their ongoing continued support, especially over the Christmas period when we have a large amount of abandoned dogs and cats.
Our rescue keeps growing and we now take in abandoned cats and kittens.
If you have a problem and need to re-home your family dog we will try our best to help.
